One question we hear from time to time is: “Can you inflate a balloon I bought somewhere else?” Happy Balloons does not provide air-filling or helium-filling for balloons purchased from another shop, website or supplier.

This policy applies to all outside-purchased balloons, including latex balloons, foil balloons and Bubble Balloons, whether the item is new, unused or still in its packaging. It is not a judgement about another retailer. It is about making sure we can supply, inspect and stand behind the product we fill.

Why we need to supply the balloons we fill

When we inflate a balloon, we need to know what the balloon is made from, how it was constructed, what size it is and which filling method is suitable. We also need to understand how it has been stored and handled before it reaches us.

With a balloon purchased elsewhere, we cannot reliably verify those details. A product may look similar to one we stock but have different material, seams, valves, coatings or recommended handling instructions. The packaging may also not show enough information for us to assess the item properly.

Different balloons need different handling

Latex, foil and Bubble Balloons are not interchangeable products. Latex balloons stretch as they are filled and can respond differently depending on their size, age, storage and condition. Foil balloons use a valve and seams that need suitable filling and handling. Bubble Balloons have their own material and sealing requirements.

The correct fill is not determined by appearance alone. A balloon that accepts air or helium may still not be suitable for the equipment, pressure or finished display the customer expects. We do not want to guess with a product that we did not supply.

Quality, safety and the finished result

Outside-purchased balloons may have been stored in heat, sunlight, a vehicle or an area with sharp or rough items. They may also have small weaknesses that cannot be seen before filling. Filling can reveal a leak, a damaged seam, a faulty valve or a material problem.

If that happens, we cannot confirm when the issue occurred or how the balloon was stored before it came to us. We also cannot guarantee the finished appearance, leak resistance, floating performance, display time or aftercare of a product we did not supply.

For the same reason, we cannot take a helium-only or air-only request for an outside-purchased balloon. The filling service does not remove the uncertainty about the balloon itself.

What we can help with instead

We can recommend and supply a suitable balloon for the intended use, colour palette and event setting. This allows our team to choose the product, fill it correctly and give care guidance that matches the item supplied.

If you are not sure which balloon is suitable, contact us before purchasing. Please include the event date, suburb, intended display position, preferred colours and whether you need pickup, delivery or event setup.

Frequently asked questions

Can you inflate a latex balloon bought from another shop?

No. We do not fill outside-purchased latex balloons with air or helium. We can recommend a suitable latex product supplied by Happy Balloons instead.

Can you fill an outside-purchased foil balloon or Bubble Balloon?

No. The same policy applies to foil balloons and Bubble Balloons. Their valves, seams, materials and handling requirements can vary, so we only fill products supplied by Happy Balloons.

What if the balloon is unused and still sealed?

We still cannot verify the product's construction, storage history or filling requirements, so we cannot fill it. An unused item is not automatically a product we can safely assess or guarantee.

Can I pay for helium only?

No. We do not provide air-only or helium-only filling for balloons purchased elsewhere. The product and the filling method need to be considered together.

What should I do if I already bought the balloon?

Contact the shop or supplier where you purchased it and ask about its filling and care instructions. If you would like an alternative from Happy Balloons, send us your event details and we can discuss a suitable product or decoration option.

Our team is happy to help you choose a balloon that we can supply, fill and support from order through to pickup, delivery or event setup.
