Astronaut-Themed First Birthday Balloon Décor at The Langham Sydney
For a one-year-old's afternoon tea, the family wanted a playful astronaut theme with details that felt personal to the celebration.
Happy Balloons brought the idea together with a custom main backdrop, planet-shaped helium balloons, a gift table and a glowing LED number 1. Chinese first-birthday elements added a meaningful layer to the space-inspired design.

Main backdrop
A custom space scene for the main moment
The main backdrop was designed as a small space scene, with astronauts, planets and layered blue and silver balloon clusters. It gave the room a clear visual focal point while leaving space for the gift table, milestone number and the family's other birthday details.
The design was built around the celebration rather than a standard colour package. The cool blue palette, silver accents and planet shapes carried the astronaut idea through the backdrop and into the rest of the room.
Floating planets · LED detail
A room that carried the theme upwards
Planet-shaped helium balloons were arranged around the room so the space theme continued above the tables and backdrop. The installation also included cascading LED lights woven through the balloon chain, adding a luminous detail to the design.
These floating and illuminated elements gave the setup more than one viewing height: guests could see the main backdrop at eye level while the helium planets and light chain added movement higher in the room.
Personalised details
Milestone details in the foreground
The glowing LED number 1 marked the first birthday, while the gift-table area and white ONE boxes were styled as part of the same space-inspired scene. Blue and green custom ombré balloons added two distinct colour moments to the wider installation.
Chinese-Western celebration
A space theme with a family tradition
The family also included Chinese first-birthday traditions in the setup. A 聪明门 character-choice display and 抓周 ceremony were placed alongside the astronaut décor, bringing a meaningful cultural layer into the afternoon tea celebration.
The combination kept the styling personal: a playful outer-space world for the party, with familiar family traditions included in the celebration.
Entrance welcome sign
A playful welcome at the door
The entrance welcome sign continued the astronaut idea with a character display and a small balloon arrangement at the base. The supplied photograph includes a child-photo cut-out with the face pixelated for privacy.
The final result
A first birthday with its own orbit
This setup combined a custom astronaut backdrop, planet-shaped helium balloons, cascading LED lights, a glowing number 1, blue and green ombré balloons, a gift table and white ONE boxes.
The 聪明门 character-choice display and 抓周 ceremony added a personal family tradition to the space-themed design.
